(1) When I was little, Grandma always played with me. (2) She taught me how to dance, and she made beautiful clothes for my dolls. (3) She was my special friend, but I had no idea just how special until I was in ninth grade.

(4) Since my family did not have much money, I knew I would never be able to buy a great dress for the school dance. (5) That did not stop me from dreaming, however. (6) Many nights, after I had finished my homework, I would sketch the "perfect" dress. (7) I kept all the sketches on my bedside table. (8) I guess I figured that was a good place to store impossible dreams.

(9) One Monday, Mom and Grandma agreed that we should start shopping for my dress. (10) I dreaded shopping for it; I knew I would face a big disappointment when I found nothing close to my "perfect" dress. (11) Nevertheless, we decided that we would shop for my dress on Saturday.

(12) That Friday night at dinner, Grandma seemed unusually cheerful as she asked, “What’s cooking, Natalie?” (13) When I replied, “Not much,” she sang out, like a happy little bird, “Oh, Natalie! I have a surprise,” and reached under the table to pull out a huge, flat box. (14) When I opened it, I gasped and burst into tears. (15) Grandma had made my “perfect” dress! (16) When I looked over, I saw that she was crying, too. (17) "I'm sorry," she said, now laughing. (18) "I was so worried it wouldn't be what you hoped for," she said. (19) "I love it," I said and gave her a hug.

My horrid experience

It was a dark and cold night. I was cycling back home from my friend's house—the roads, deserted and silent all around. The way to my house lay through a woodland. As I entered the woodlands I remembered what my friends had told me. The place felt haunted by spirits. I had never believed in them, but now they looked real. I began to shiver with fear and wanted to speed through the woodland. So I began to pedal faster and faster. Suddenly, my bicycle started getting slower and slower, though I pedaled very fast. I had a feeling that somebody was holding my bike and pulling at it; I began to scream. I got off the bike and decided to run for my life, but I found I could not do that because someone seemed to have caught me from behind. I turn around to free myself from the hold of the mysterious being. I found one end of the show I was wearing a coat in the rear wheel of my bicycle. I immediately freed the show from the wheel and felt reliable. I realized that I had been sweating all over, and my heart was beating fast.

I quickly got onto my bicycle and pedaled fast. When I reached home, I narrated this horrifying experience to my parents. They had good fun at my expense.

How do you describe feminine speech? What about masculine speech?

Answers

Answer:

Abstract

Explanation:

Women with feminine speech patterns (i.e., use of tag questions, modals, intensifiers, and numeral approximations) are seen as less confident, less assertive, and less believable than women with masculine speech patterns. The present study examined how masculine and feminine speech patterns affect the acceptance by superiors of decisions made by male and female subordinates. Seventy-nine male and female students listened to a tape recording of a subordinate's proposal for a new electronic game. The results demonstrated that the proposals of subordinates with masculine speech patterns were more likely to be accepted by male listeners, whereas female listeners were not influenced by the speech patterns.
