“The Sound of Thunder” fits into a science fiction genre, due to the fact that the characters go back into time; with the events that follow the whole world is changed when one little tiny thing is affected. The theme of the story is very realistic but futuristic at the same time; therefore, making it very complicated with real problems in the modern world but not having it appear that way. The story has a diamon effect when Eckles stepped on the butterfly it had changed everything in the world when they had returned. The exact quotes are “Not a little thing like that! Not a butterfly!” cried Eckels. “It fell to the floor, an exquisite thing, a small thing that could upset balances and knock down a line of small dominoes and then big dominoes and then gigantic dominoes, all down the years across Time.”
“Nethergrave” by Gloria Skurzynski is very realistic then takes a turn, in my opinion it is a very hard story to follow. It has shown that you cannot trust others while “A sound of Thunder” is telling you not to trust yourself in stressful situations. In Nethergrave it has Jeremy believing other people, when more times than not he is disappointed by the actual descriptions of his only friends. Once again this story sheds light on real problems in modern life. The story is in the science fiction genre because it has very futurist properties such as the advanced computer system, the advanced technology and how he has it all.
From the stories, it can be deduced that Nethergrave represents a more accurate portrayal towards technology.
In Nethergrave, the settings illustrated that the way you other people describe themselves isn’t always true, and how you can easily give in to something that isn’t good for you.
On the other hand, "A sound of Thunder” gives the thought that technology can be dangerous, although we don’t always see how.
In conclusion, both stories are excellent science fiction stories.

Firstly, I would say that the slow judgement system is part of the reason. Unlike in the past were undisciplined people are swiftly dealt with thereby restoring order, currently such is no longer obtainable. Example is flogging that was banned in all school.
Secondly, the rise of social media is a contributory factor. People are afraid of being crucified on the alter of social media for trying to enforce discipline on erring people. The would rather overlook it than to be labelled to harsh.
Lastly, the issue of politically correct movements. Previously, discipline is enforced in the highest order including the carrying of capital punishment where necessary but is no longer up tenable do to various politically correct movements that would rather have things their way rather than disciplinary actions which they consider archaic to be enforced.
I believe, some of these are part of the reason why discipline has fallen in today's world compared to the past.
