What is genre theory in simplified terms

Answers

Answer:

As readers, we often think of genre in terms of writing styles: comedy, romance, mystery, drama, and tragedy. We are trained to recognize the conventions and hallmarks of these forms. Genre also includes broad categories like poetry, novels, and plays. After all, we rely on specific conventions and expectations in our responses to a text. A person screaming in a café is interpreted differently in a comedy than in a tragedy because of the context. These distinctions represent genres or forms of writing.

Current genre theory, however, delves deeper. It describes genre as a response to a specific and recurrent social situation. Recurring social/rhetorical situations give rise to genres and genre, thus, depends heavily on the intertextuality of discourse (Devitt 576). In the case of an academic article, for example, this intertextuality means that scholars are guided by, refer back to, and engage with previous work.

Carolyn Miller describes genre as a social construct and social action, providing the writer with a socially recognizable way to make his or her intentions known (157-58). Genre theory offers a way of thinking about how language depends on context.

Explanation:

Genre Theory involves classifying a film into a category that contains other films that have similar aspects. These could be similar narratives, characters, filming techniques, or other formal features. The word genre comes from the French (and originally Latin) word for 'kind' or 'class' ”

The judge said to the lawyer, “Will you be able to complete your arguments tomorrow?” Convert it into indirect speech.

Answers

Answer:

The judge asked the lawyer if he would be able to complete his arguments tomorrow.

Explanation:

An indirect speech is also known as "reported speech." This type of speech doesn't quote what was stated in the sentence; rather it tries to report.

The example sentence above is a "direct speech" which is supposed to be turned into a reported speech, which should include an indirect question (Will you be able to complete your arguments tomorrow?) In order to do this, "will" should be replaced with "would." The change in tenses largely depends on the mood. In this case, it is already stating something that happened in the past.

Read the passage about the life of Cesar Chavez.

Cesar Chavez was born on March 31, 1927, near Yuma, Arizona. Chavez is best known for his use of nonviolent means to draw attention to the poor working conditions of farm workers in the United States. He also formed the National Farm Workers Association in 1962. In 1972, the National Farm Workers Association merged with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee to become the United Farm Workers. Chavez led marches, boycotts, and hunger strikes. It is believed that these hunger strikes may have contributed to his death on April 23, 1993.

Chavez dedicated his life to improving the lives of farm workers, a life with which he was very familiar. Until he was ten, his parents had owned a farm. They lost this farm during the Great Depression, and he and his family became migrant farm workers. Chavez had to work even harder after his father was injured in an automobile accident. He knew all too well about the poor pay and terrible working conditions withstood by farm workers. Chavez used nonviolent means to fight for the improved treatment, pay, and working conditions of farm workers. He was instrumental in organizing one such famous strike against the California grape growers in 1965, a battle that lasted for years. At one point, Chavez even called for a national boycott against the grape growers. His efforts over the years resulted in several victories for farm workers. After his death, Chavez was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

A yearbook page for Cesar Chavez states "Remember when . . . you fought for better working conditions for farm workers?" What image would best illustrate this?

an image of Cesar Chavez farming with his family
an image of Cesar Chavez leading a peaceful march
an image of Cesar Chavez working on a farm as a boy
an image of Cesar Chavez eating with farm workers

Answers

Answer:

An image of Cesar Chavez leading a peaceful march

Explanation:

Any of the other answers don't make sense; him with an image with his family has nothing to do with fighting for better working conditions. Him working on a farm just shows that he farmed, not helped. An image with him and farmers would just show that he was friends with some farm workers.

Reported speech is the term that represents the moment in a story where the character's speech is presented inserted in the narration. This type of speech is also called indirect speech, because we know what the character was talking about indirectly between us, readers, and the character, because whoever tells us the character's speech is the narrator.

An example of reported speech is the phrase: "Morgan said he couldn't do that at the time."

Answer:

B. Audio-lingual method

False

Explanation:

The audio-lingual method is a method of teaching foreign languages based on the behaviorist theory, according to which new behaviors can be taught through positive reinforcement. As errors form bad habits, they are immediately corrected by the teacher, while correct responses are immediately positively reinforced.

The grammar-translation method is a method of teaching foreign languages based on the classical method of teaching Greek and Latin, where students learn grammatical rules and then apply them by translating sentences between the language they are learning and their native language. Classes taught by this method are taught in their native language, which means that the teacher doesn't have to be a native speaker of the target language. They should be a native speaker of the students' native language and possess the knowledge of the target language.

The importance of the medical field has always been of significant interest to me. Neurology, gastroenterology, cardiology, etc. is essential to the prosperity of mankind. Unfortunately, it is underappreciated to some extent, and the knowledge of these fields is miniscule.

Digestion has always been essential to the human body, as failure to do so would result in our death. Gastroenterology is essentially a medical field dedicated to focusing on the health and well-being of the digestive system and the disorders that occur within it. This field is greatly hidden, as it is unknown to majority of people across the world. Your body seemingly processes waste and materials without concern, as you cannot see the complicated process that the human body undergoes when transporting waste out of the body. This field of study makes a great impact on us, and their research has provided us with safer lives on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, the human body cannot function without the use of the heart. While this medical field is more more widely known of, their actual field of study is not entirely clear. Cardiology focuses on the heart, as well as blood vessels, and the entire cardiovascular system. Cardiologists specialize in treating heart-related diseases, injuries, and other problems that relate to the cardiovascular system. The functions of the heart affect the human body greatly, and without it we could not survive. These doctors affect us much more than we assume.

Are you familiar with the organ that controls everything we do- even our heart's beating? Our brain is one of the most important organs in our body, and it is not underappreciated. But what field of study studies our brains? Neurology! Neurology is an extremely well-known field of study, and many more people know of this field than any other. The human brain is a complex organ, and these doctors have spent years in college to prepare for their job. When you consider it, these people are using their brains to study ours! This popular spectrum does not go unnoticed, as it never should. How could we function without our brains constantly working?

The human body is often prone to developing tumors, though most go unnoticed, and they do not affect us. Cancer cells may build up over a course of years, and without treatment, can turn deadly; this is why oncologists are here to help us. These doctors deal with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. These doctors, like gastroenterologists, are not very popular throughout the medical field. They play a cardinal role in the health of people, but we often do not hear about them unless we are referred to one.

There are many more medical fields that are open, looking for people such as yourself, but not enough people are familiar with the amount of jobs open to them. People that study in the medical field are making a significant difference to us - not to mention that the paycheck is worth the effort.

Answers

Answer:

Simple machines are all around us.

Our lives would not be the same without these machines.

Each  window blind is operated by a pulley that closes and opens it.

A simple doorknob is a wheel and axle that allows us to open and close doors.

A rolling pin is another wheel and axle used to help prepare the dough for baking the crust of your favourite plantain tart.

Explanation:

I have written the complete subjects in bold letters and underlined the simple subjects.

The subject is what the sentence is about. It tells us who or what performs the action expressed by the verb, or who or what is being described by the predicate.

The simple subject is the main word of the complete subject, usually a noun.

A complete subject is a group of words that contains the simple subject and words that modify (describe) it.

For example, Simple machines are all around us. The complete subject is simple machines. It is described by the predicate - are all around us. The main word of the subject is machines, which makes it the simple subject. We could say Machines are all around us, and the sentence wouldn't change too significantly. Simple is an adjective that modifies that noun machines, which is why it's also a part of the complete subject.
