The intensity of the Sun's radiation is decreasing. B. Natural processes on the Earth cause carbon dioxide to cycle through limestone, coal, several chemical-weathering reactions, and the atmosphere. C. The climate on Venus is a "runaway icehouse," a positive feedback that perpetually keeps the planet cold. D. The two major factors determining the Earth's temperature are the Earth-Sun distance and the concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere.
Answer:
The true statement is option D. The two major factors determining the Earth's temperature are the Earth-Sun distance and the concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere.
Explanation:
The distance between the sun and the Earth is one of the factors that determines the temperature of the planet. The energy from the sun travels to the Earth, increasing the temperature.
The other fact that has a role in the Earth's temperature is the concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere. It can increase or decrease the temperature according to the amount of this. Oxigen contributes to the greenhouse effect, which helps to keep the temperature in a range that allows life to happen.

What did Calcutta use to get water out of the city in the past? Why is that no longer effective?
plz, answer quick if I don't do this by 2:30 I can't go to a Christmas party :(
this is for 20 points
Answer:
According to the former chief environment officer of the state environment department, Calcutta is blessed ecologically because it has, “the Ganga flowing beside its western end, traditionally huge groundwater reserve and wide wetlands area in its eastern fringe which naturally treats its waste water and turns that as raw water for fishery and agriculture.” Despite these advantages the city is increasingly running into trouble.
Officially 15% of core Calcutta’s water come from groundwater sources and rest from surface water. With the entire city being supplied water through pipelines. In reality up to 25% to 30% of the water used in households is groundwater.
Despite having water connections, rich families living in newly constructed multi-story apartment blocks pump their own water. They say that they do not have much faith on the quality of water supplied by civic bodies. The situation is even worse in smaller cities within Calcutta Metropolitan Area where the access to surface water is much less.
As a consequence of this groundwater levels have plummeted in various parts of the city. The people of Calcutta had carried out a detailed assessment of groundwater status in the city some years back and found that there had been sharp decline especially in central to south Calcutta as well as along EM Bypass where most high-rises have come up in recent years. So what the people of Calcutta were doing wouldn't help now because they are running out of water faster than you can count.
Calcutta officially has about 17,000 stand posts (as water hydrants are referred to in the city), 12,000 hand tube wells and around 2,500 large tube wells mainly catering to multi-story buildings, but the actual figures are far higher. In the same vein, although officially commercial establishments and industries account for around one-fifth of the city’s water, the actual consumption is significantly higher.
Supplying drinking water has become a big business in and around Calcutta, especially in areas with unsafe groundwater. For example, Madhusudhankati is a small hamlet at the northern fringe of Calcutta Metropolitan Area where groundwater is contaminated with arsenic. In the village nearly 200 families pay ten rupees every day to buy 20 litres of safe drinking water provided by non-profit Sulabh International. Rates are much higher in other areas where private companies operate.
The drinking water supply also gets contaminated by leaking sewerage pipes. Industrial pollutants including heavy metals also leak into groundwater supplies. There was an effort from the state pollution control board to ensure that industries treat effluent before disposing it into the sewer line but they have to accept that virtually nothing has been done on the ground.
With all these problems, the city is running towards an imminent water crisis. There is a limit to supply of treated surface water if you do not introduce water charges and minimise water waste. With increasing demand the pressure will be more on groundwater, which in turn will further affect the quantity and quality of groundwater especially in context to continually decreasing water recharge due to increasing concretization, there is no doubt, despite traditionally having good water reserves Calcutta are entering into an era of water starvation in city

Which of the following events was NOT a cause of the Russian Revolution?
A. poor working conditions in cities
B. Czar Alexander II's limited reforming
C. government policy known as "Russification"
D. adoption of Marxism
Answer:
B but don't be surprised if it is D.
Explanation:
Russification was a thorn in the side of the rulers. People do not like giving up their culture. It was a cause.
The cities were poor -- especially after the disaster they suffered in WWI. The nobility was not liked. That was a cause.
Czar Alexander may have been slow to reform, but he was not the main culprit. I think this is an answer you should consider carefully. (B)
I would use the adoption of Marxism. That was not made official until After Lenin came to power. The vocabulary was often used by the leaders, but most of the peasants didn't know it's meaning.
The answer is between B and D. I would pick D, but I think you are intended to answer B.

If the vertex of image Q’ is located at the coordinates (16,8) was dilated by the scale factor of 2, what was the coordinates for the pre-image Q?
Answer:
The pre-image Q is [tex]Q(x,y) =(8,4)[/tex] .
Explanation:
From Linear Algebra, we can define dilation by the following expression:
[tex]Q'(x,y) = O(x,y) + k\cdot [Q(x,y)-O(x,y)][/tex] (1)
Where:
[tex]O(x,y)[/tex] - Reference point, dimensionless.
[tex]Q(x,y)[/tex] - Original point, dimensionless.
[tex]Q'(x,y)[/tex] - Dilated point, dimensionless.
[tex]k[/tex] - Dilation factor, dimensionless.
If we know that [tex]O(x,y) = (0,0)[/tex], [tex]Q'(x,y) = (16,8)[/tex] and [tex]k = 2[/tex], then the original point is:
[tex]Q'(x,y)-O(x,y) = k\cdot [Q(x,y)-O(x,y)][/tex]
[tex]Q(x,y) = O(x,y) +\frac{1}{k}\cdot [Q'(x,y)-O(x,y)][/tex]
[tex]Q(x,y) =(0,0)+\frac{1}{2}\cdot [(16,8)-(0,0)][/tex]
[tex]Q(x,y) =(8,4)[/tex]
The pre-image Q is [tex]Q(x,y) =(8,4)[/tex] .
Anthropogenic (human-induced) changes in the Earth System Choose one: A. are decreasing as technology leads to more environmentally friendly practices. B. are responsible for natural contaminants such as soot, dust, and organic waste. C. include global warming, which is greatly enhanced by society's production of greenhouse gases. D. began as early as 20,000 years ago as humans began to modify ecosystems.
Answer:
C. include global warming, which is greatly enhanced by society's production of greenhouse gas
Explanation:
Human activities such as burning of fossil fuel, industrial waste has lead to the emission of greenhouses such as carbondioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, chlorofloro carbon accumulation of which in the atmosphere leads to global warming as a result of the depletion of the ozone layer and the direct impact of sun on the earth.
The depleted ozone layer has lead to the constant and high temperature
that is affecting the earth.
Green plant, trees are natural users of carbondioxide but deforestation of this trees has also reduce the use of carbondioxide making it abundant in the atmosphere.

What are the similarities and differences between the activities of early settlers and those of later settlers?
Answer:
If you are talking about settlers who went to America...
The first settlers came to escape religious persecution (the pilgrims), and eventually they also got tired of British rule so they wanted to separate from Britain. Later settlers came because they wanted to seek freedom in the new world that they didn't receive in their own old homeland.

When the Northern Hemisphere is pointing towards the sun, what season is the
Southern Hemisphere?
Answer:
Winter
Explanation:
When the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the sun, latitudes between the equator and 90°N (the North Pole) are experiencing summer. At the same time, the Southern Hemisphere is tilted away from the sun and experiencing winter. You are welcome, it is because it is positioned close to the line of Earth's axis projected into space. As such, it is the only bright star whose position relative to a rotating Earth does not change.
